This early sample of Albino Rocca’s Montersino Barbaresco was a joy to taste, as it presented a gorgeously finessed bouquet of fresh fruit, roses and dusty minerals. On the palate, I found silky, vibrant textures with a youthful tug of tannin and excellent concentration in it’s focused red fruits. Notes of spice and dried cherry lingered on the finish. Montersino is a vineyard, which straddles the townships of Treiso and Alba, with limestone rich soils and a full southern exposure. Before 2012, this fruit would go into Rocca’s Barbaresco normale.
